小時候，可能是因為害怕、可能是因為驚詫(當然也可能純粹因為感情豐富)，看到這首歌的MV時我總得咬緊牙根，才能忍著不哭出來。十幾年過去了，照理說我的「閥值」應該練得比較高了，然而當我再次挖出這首歌的MV，鹹鹹的熱水依舊會任性的想從眼框裡溢出來。我不知道自己究竟是怎麼變成現在這個關注動保環保更勝一切的憤世嫉俗的女人，但是我記得當初我看了這支音樂錄影帶、獅子王與漢聲小百科，從此之後面對地球、生態與自然，我生而為人，便再也抬不起頭來。
記得《駭客任務》裡打不死的蟑螂「史密斯探員」曾說，依他觀察結果，唯一與人類最相近的生物就是病毒，因為無論何種生物都會找到某種辦法與其生活環境達成一定程度的平衡共處，唯有人類和病毒一旦找到了寄生的宿主，便會肆無忌憚地侵略破壞、扒乾抹淨。等到宿主完全被糟蹋殆盡，他們/我們便開始尋找下一個宿主......我不喜歡這種論調，相信很多人也根本沒認真聽這隻老和帥帥的救世主Neo作對的蟑螂倒底講過什麼話。但是，不可否認的，從某種抽離自身立場的角度而言，我們現在在做的，的確有一部分符合了史密斯的「人類病毒說」，不是嗎？不然為什麼會有個仕途光明的老美緊張兮兮地跳出來宣導《不願面對的真相》？不然熱門影集Heroes的年輕女主角幹麻吃飽撐著跑去找日本捕鯨船麻煩，然後搞了半天只能束手無策地看著被海豚鮮血染紅的一整片海灣，然後在岸邊哭得柔腸寸斷？或許有人會認為這一切都只是偽善者的show business，但如果他們所擔憂的問題(很不幸的)真的跟想像中一樣嚴重(或是更甚)，我們該怎麼辦？我們會變成什麼樣子？
好在，這個世界上還是有很多人關心著我們唯一的家，我們和平共存的希望，以及無可取代的動物朋友。
所以，MJ唱了這首地球之歌。

P.S. 此音樂錄影帶的拍攝橫跨四大洲，其中沒有任何動物因此遭到殺害，相關畫面皆自紀錄片中取材而得。然而，在他們拍攝的過程中，組員們注意到非洲草原的不遠處正有盜獵者肆無忌憚地殺象取牙，而他們在亞馬遜雨林中的拍攝段落收工不久之後，就得知影片中的雨林已經被夷為平地。
